What it is ?

Upper GI Endoscopy (Gastroscopy) is a procedure where a thin flexible tube with a camera is passed through the mouth to examine the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum.

Why it is needed?

Persistent acidity or heartburn
Difficulty swallowing
Unexplained vomiting or bleeding
Stomach pain
Suspected ulcers or tumors
Biopsy collection

Preparation Steps

Fasting: No food for 6–8 hours before the procedure
Water intake: Small sips allowed up to 2–4 hours before (as advised)
Medicines: Inform doctor about blood thinners, diabetes, or heart medicines

Recovery & Aftercare

Mild throat discomfort for a few hours
Avoid driving the same day if sedation is given
Resume light diet as advised
Contact doctor if severe pain, fever, or bleeding occurs
