What it is ?

Upper GI Endoscopy (Gastroscopy) is a procedure where a thin flexible tube with a camera is passed through the mouth to examine the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum.

Why it is needed?

  • Persistent acidity or heartburn
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Unexplained vomiting or bleeding
  • Stomach pain
  • Suspected ulcers or tumors
  • Biopsy collection

Preparation Steps

  • Fasting: No food for 6–8 hours before the procedure

  • Water intake: Small sips allowed up to 2–4 hours before (as advised)

  • Medicines: Inform doctor about blood thinners, diabetes, or heart medicines

Recovery & Aftercare

  • Mild throat discomfort for a few hours
  • Avoid driving the same day if sedation is given
  • Resume light diet as advised
  • Contact doctor if severe pain, fever, or bleeding occurs
